Resident Evil 5 Xbox 360 Reviews

Review by Mr. Christopher J. Welch (Lincolnshire, UK)

Anyone who played Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube or PS2 will know what to expect from Capcom's latest zombie fest. The emphasis on chills and suspense has been largely jetisoned in favour of Gears Of War style gunplay and arcade action and, whilst not exactly a revolution, the first next gen Resi is a genuine barnstormer.
Initially you'll be frustrated by the fiddly control system, the innability to pause the game whilst juggling your inventory and the lack of ammo and health - as you die over and over again. Frustrating is not the word. Get past the first 20 minutes though and things quickly fall into place. Capcom have fashioned an absorbing shooter which liberally steals the best bits from previous Resi's and throws everything and the kitchen sink at the player (Chris Renfield from the first game).
Graphically this is as good as it gets on the 360 and, the odd moment of slow down and clipping aside, never has the world of Resident Evil looked so pretty.
Of course no game is perfect and RE5 does have it's problems - having to look after your partner and keep her alive can become frustrating, especially as her AI is'nt the sharpest in the single player campaign. The camera also occasionally struggles to keep up with the action and it's easy to become disorientated at crucial moments. Still this wouldn't be a Resident evil game without a few quirks and niggles to bring those memories flooding back.
Resident Evil 4 was a landmark game that revived the franchised and blew the competiton away. RE5 is more of an evolution than a revolution but is still a must for gore and action fans alike. Mix those herbs and grab that health spray one more time.

I like to think that this is a totally unbiased positive review, because I HATE Resident Evil. I've played a couple of the games in the series and I have always hated them and cursed them to hell with a passion. I downloaded the demo for Resident Evil 5 from the Xbox Live marketplace because I tend to download most demos that look in any way decent, and the graphics drew me. These said graphics are quite simply stunning. No other word will do. I've heard complaints about the controls but they are actually very easy to use if you take a few seconds to understand that this is not an FPS. I've always hated that you can't shoot and run together in Resident Evil games, but I had actually forgotten about this until another review reminded me. Yeah, now that I think of it, it would have been nioce to be able to shoot inaccurately when not aiming (sort of like Gears of War maybe), but the fact that you can only run or shoot, adds to the horror-zombie element. The co-op element is nicely managed. The gameplay mechanics work nicely. You can struggle with enemies, save your partner from it(I felt very satisfied when I sniped a zombie struggling with my partner in an opposite building), perform finishing moves etc. All very nice. Can't comment on the story - I don't know it. The game just as that X-Factor and draws you in instantly. Here the demo has me talking as if I'm reviewing the whole game... The demo of Resident Evil 5 has seriously impressed me, a hater of the franchise and has left me anxiously awaiting the title's release. Quite simply put, I CAN'T WAIT TO BUY THIS!

Resident Evil 5 PS3 Reviews

Most of the negative reviews about Resident Evil 5 seem to relate to the over-complicated control system.
HOWEVER! You do have the option to CHANGE the controls to one of 4 options. What's more - one of these options is the classic controls used in Resident Evil 4!
So stop complaining! I'm playing the game on the Resident Evil 4 controls and I have to say the game is fantastic - just as good as previous incarnations of the game.

If anyone has played resident evil 0-CV before they will be familiar with survival horror. Then came resi 4 which raised the bar so much higher by adding extra action and toning down the puzzle elements. Now we have resident evil 5 a must for a fan of the series! Its next gen resident evil 4, bigger guns (check out chris redfields!) bigger levels, badder bad guys and the return of wesker! This game ties up those loose ends that have been niggling away! Plus for the first time ever you can actually play through the entire story with an online (or offline) companion. I'm sorry I am a die hard resi fan so my review is most likely heavily biased but those of us who like resident evil like it for the challenge. We like Insane difficulty thats why we play the game through to unlock the hardest settings, and we relish the controls otherwise it would just be another action shooter!
Capcom,well done, I salute you.
